Are you looking for a new furry family member? When adopting a Manitoba Mutt, you’re not only gaining a new companion, but you're truly giving a second chance to a dog that otherwise may not have gotten one. Adopting a new puppy or dog is an exciting time for any family, but before considering adopting a dog please make sure you're ready for the commitment of taking care of a pet. Having a dog is a huge commitment that requires time, patience and isn't cheap. If you're ready to bring that new fuzzy family member into your household we promise they'll pay you back a million times over in the long run with all the love they will give you.
Manitoba Mutts only adopts out dogs to families who will keep their dogs indoors with them as Members of the family and states that none of our animals are to live as 'outdoor' dogs or spend time outdoors on a chain. Dogs are pack animals and suffer greatly by being chained, penned or otherwise excluded from their family, even for short periods of time. Being included inside the home is essential for a dog's emotional and physical health. It is just as cruel to starve a dog of their emotional needs as it is to starve them of food and water.
Since our dogs are cared for in foster homes, not in a shelter, we require all potential adopters to be pre-approved before meeting the dog. The first step is to complete the adoption application in full. This information helps us properly match you with a dog that suits your lifestyle. References are required to verify your information. We promise to try our best to respond to all adoption inquiries within 48 hours. Please be patient with us as our organization is run completely by volunteers.
Once you are pre-approved, we will put you in contact with the foster(s) so you can meet the dog(s) you’re interested in adopting. Potential adopters are required to schedule a meeting within 24-48 hours. When meeting the dog, please bring a leash, collar, your signed contract and payment. If the meeting is a success and you choose to adopt, you may bring the dog home with you! For puppies under eight weeks old, you must leave your signed contract and payment with the foster to secure the adoption. You will be contacted once the puppy is eight weeks old to arrange a pick up. You cannot bring your new dog home without providing a signed contract and payment.
If needed, we will hold the dog for 24 hours to allow you to decide whether or not you want to adopt the dog. After this time, if you are still unsure about adopting, we reserve the right to move onto the next interested adopter.
Dogs can take up to 2-3 weeks to settle into a new environment. We encourage our adopters to be patient and give their new dogs a chance to get used to their new home and family. We are always here to provide help and support for your dog and your family. If you have any questions or concerns about your new dog, please contact us. We can provide some advice on training and behavioral issues, and if necessary recommend a professional to help. Our goal is to find loving, permanent homes for our dogs and are dedicated to seeing that through. We offer an Alumni support group for adopters to share pictures, stories and to ask questions. When you adopt a Manitoba Mutt, you’re part of our Mutts family.
